ABOUT US

The Upton upon Severn Blues Festival has been held annually since 2002 and has proved to be very popular, growing in size every year and, in recent years, winning several awards.

In 2012, the festival organising committee decided that, given the size of the festival and the work it does funding local good causes, the next logical step was for it to become a charity, so “Upton Festival Of Blues Limited” was registered with the Charity Commission in July 2012 (registered charity No 1148230) and volunteer Trustees were appointed to provide governance over the festival’s organisation committee and manage the allocation of grants to local good causes.

The Trustees board is separated from and independent of the festival organising committee and the Trust has no role in organising and running the festival. This task is delegated to the Festival Director.

The charity’s stated objects are:

The promotion and advancement of the aesthetic education of the townsfolk of, and the visitors to, Upton upon Severn and the Midlands, by the performance of blues music of a high artistic calibre; and one or more of the following as the trustees think fit;

  1. To advance the aesthetic education of the townsfolk of Upton upon Severn and the public of the Midlands generally in the subject of music, including the appreciation of music and the playing of music generally;

  2. To advance the aesthetic education of the public in general in the subject of blues music of a high artistic calibre, including the appreciation of such blues music and the playing of such blues music generally; and/or

  3. To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Upton upon Severn and the surrounding area the provision of facilities and funding of activities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, or for the public at large and for other registered charities in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.
